Term Limits News

Term Limits Button GraphicOn November 17, 2009, the It’s Time for Term Limits campaign turned in 120,000 signatures to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. The campaign needed approximately 77,000 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot for the June 2010 election. On December 15, 2009, the San Diego County Registrar of Voters announced the initiative has qualified for the ballot.

The ballot measure will limit the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to serving two four-year terms. Voters from all over San Diego County signed petitions to qualify the measure.

Every member of the current Board of Supervisors has served at least 14 years on the Board. The last time incumbents lost their re-election was in 1984, now more then 25 years ago.

San Diego County employee and SEIU Local 221 member Marge Johnson, presented the signatures to the Registrar for vaildation. Johnson is the original proponent of the Term Limits Initiative.

“County Supervisors have entrenched themselves in cushy jobs and have lost touch with the neediest San Diegans who now have to fend for themselves during these tough economic times,” Johnson said. “Term limits will help us achieve accountability at the County.”
