Coming Soon – Local 221 Affinity Groups
SEIU Local 221 is organizing a variety of affinity groups to benefit our members. The goal of the affinity groups is to engage our membership not only in the workplace, but in their personal lives and in the community as well.
The affinity groups at SEIU Local 221 cover a wide array of the interests of our members. The affinity groups that are currently forming are:
- Armed Forces Group (For Active Duty Military, Reserves, Retired and their families)
- Latino Group
- Disabilites Group
- Asian/Pacific Islander Group
- African-American Group
- LGBT Group
- Generations X & Y Social Group (For members in their 20s and 30s)
- Food for Thought (Focusing on the social justice aspects of food in the local community)
In the past year, SEIU Local 221 has partnered with the American Red Cross, National University, the San Diego Community College District, the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of America on a variety of community projects. The number of members who participated in the community partnerships has been overwhelming. Increased community involvement by our membership is also in line with the plans of SEIU International, which has mandated that every SEIU local across the county needs to increase member involvement in their communities.
If you are interested in joining an affinity group, please contact our Affinity Group Chair Marge Johnson at 619-507-2685 (Cell) or marge.johnson@seiu221.org.
