Contracting out our jobs risks lives, transparency

Sheriff Gore is threatening hundreds of County nurses and social workers with layoffs and proposing to contract out our jobs and put lives, safety and transparency at risk. We must act now to stop Sheriff Gore’s careless attempt to take away County jobs and bring in for-profit contractors to the San Diego County Jails.

Let’s tell Sheriff Gore and the Board of Supervisors, SEIU Local 221 members will not allow them to take one step toward the slippery slope of letting private contracting companies replace County workers. Protecting our sisters and brothers who are healthcare staff in the Sheriff’s department ensures that we are protecting our own jobs. We must be prepared to fight any attempt by the County to cut costs at the expense of staff and the communities we serve.

Follow this link to tell the Sheriff that you oppose this reckless action.

San Diego County Jails, under the management of Sheriff Gore, have the highest inmate death rate among large counties in the state. For-profit contractors are NOT the solution; proper management, adequate funding and increasing public medical and behavioral health services are the priority! Help protect our County healthcare workers and sign this petition. Then share widely.

Finally, sign up a nonunion member, to show County executives that we won’t allow them to sell out public health to for-profit, private contractors. You can sign a membership card online by following this link.
