Converting ‘just a job’ into good jobs

Converting ‘just a job’ into good jobs

Tracey Carter

On Tuesday, May 30, your SEIU Local 221 bargaining team presented the SEIU 221 Proposal for Good Jobs. We know that with the County’s stable income and strong finances (see San Diego County Budget Analysis), the County could fund SEIU 221’s proposals without changing the fundamentals of its budget strategy.

SEIU Local 221’s proposals would accomplish three main goals:
First, they would secure free health coverage under Kaiser HMO.
Second, they would provide County employees with wage increases greater than inflation.
Finally, they would make County workers’ pay and benefits competitive with other similar counties.

The Center on Policy Initiatives Deputy Director Kyra R. Greene also presented the San Diego County Budget Analysis. See the complete PowerPoint here.

Remember, we must stand together, stand strong, and everyone must participate

  • If you are not a member, join the Union. We must send a message of unity and strength to the County.
  • Participate in unity breaks and worksite actions every Thursday. If you don’t know the plan for your worksite contact your steward or worksite organizer.
  • Bring colleagues, friends and family to upcoming actions

Take part in these actions and events, including:

  • Tell the County of San Diego that you support the proposals from your bargaining team and oppose the proposals from management’s team:
  • Tell the County of San Diego not to outsource Animal Control and put public and animal safety at risk by clicking here
  • San Diego County Public Budget Hearing
Wednesday, June 14 at 5 PM (hearing begins at 5:30)
County Admin Building, 1600 Pacific Hwy, San Diego, CA 92101
