SEIU LOCAL 221 COUNTY CHAPTER PRESIDENT

On Tuesday, May 9, your SEIU Local 221 bargaining team met with County representatives.

The SEIU Local 221 team asked about the County’s proposals, including the proposed Tier D pension reduction for new members. The County said that Tier D is designed to address the “pension crisis” and will save money 18 to 20 years from now. The County couldn’t provide an estimate of how much money would be saved.

The County representatives also said that they chose a 3 percent wage increase and then 2 percent increases because it is, “What the County can afford,” and “It is fair.”

We know that the County can afford more and this offer is not fair. That is why we must all stand together and be unified, including participating in the actions listed below.

The SEIU Local 221 team also explained that with 70 percent of the employees in its groups earn less than $30 an hour. The County needs to cover the costs of health care for our members who have children.

We must stand together, stand strong, and everyone must participate

  • If you are not a member, join the Union. We must send a message of unity and strength to the County.
  • Participate in unity breaks and worksite actions every Thursday. If you don’t know the plan for your worksite contact your steward or worksite organizer.
  • Bring colleagues, friends and family to upcoming actions
