We are moving forward – Campaign Update 5

 South Region FRC Unity Break
UNITY SPOTLIGHT South Region Family Resource Center has 65 members at a unity break to make the County of San Diego bargain fairly and Invest in San Diego Families

8 am Thursday April 13
Scottish Rite Event Center
1895 Camino Del Rio S
San Diego, CA 92108

Our team voted, and the County has agreed to meet in a third room, therefore we will be able to meet under protest without our full bargaining team.

We are moving forward

Tracey Carter

Thursday at the Campaign Action Team meeting, Bargaining Team members decided to stop fighting the process and start fighting on the issues of bargaining. We will caucus with Our Invest in San Diego Families partners before decisions are finalized. This will allow us to exchange proposals to get to the real issues faster.

Nathan Wollmann: Pivot in strategy is smart offense

SEIU Local 221 Bargaining Team Member and Steward Nathan Wollmann said, “There is not any better time to become a member. We are on our way up and need to keep strong for future bargaining as well.” Go to SEIU Local 221’s Facebook page and website for more updates.

I have worked for the County for almost 10 years. I work at the HHSA Appeals, Quality Control, Overpayment Specialization Unit. The pivot in our strategy is smart. We are not giving anything up. It is similar to fencing, where you make someone feel like they are winning and take them down. It is a smart offense. I’ve experienced some of the past contracts with the County. It was really bad when I started and it got a little better. This year our contract is going to be really great. The Invest in San Diego Families coalition is something new. It is really great to have community partners on the team. It has gotten the County’s attention. Now the challenge will be to make sure Invest in San Diego Families partners are still involved with our new approach. There is not any better time to become a member. We are strong and there is more strength in numbers. We are on our way up and need to keep strong for future bargaining as well. The County has been posting outright untruths on the intranet. Claiming we are somehow not willing to bargain. We have shown up every time ready to bargain. As long as we support each other, we are going to create power for ourselves through our union.
