SEIU Local 221 is committed to ensuring each of our members casts their ballot. The 2014 November 4th Election is 7 days away, and will be a low turnout election, so every knock, phone call and worksite conversation will make a huge difference.

Last week, the City Clerk verified the signatures of the anti-minimum wage referendum. The Sick Leave-Minimum Wage ordinance which would help hundreds of thousands of hard-working San Diegans is now delayed for at least 18 months.
The San Diego City Council unanimously approved putting Sick Leave-Minimum Wage Law on the next regularly scheduled ballot (June 2016). Thank you to those who turned out, spoke up and helped spread the word! #RaiseUpSD
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. taught us that the arc of the moral universe is long, but that it bends towards justice. When the Sick Leave-Minimum Wage law goes into effect, WHEN, not IF, it will help more than 200,000 San Diegans, and their family members, who struggle daily to make ends meet on poverty wages.

SEIU Local 221 is proud of all of the positive contributions members make across San Diego communities. On Saturday, July 20th, 2014 SEIU Local 221 members and staff attended Jamie’s Joy, a foundation that SEIU Local 221 member Elene Bratton started when her son Jamie was tragically killed in a car accident.
Each year Jamie’s Joy focuses on a quality of Jamie’s legacy and finds deserving organizations that imbue that quality through the services they provide.
This year Jamie’s Joy honored Reality Changers. Reality Changers began in May 2001 with four 8th grade students near downtown San Diego with the hope of building first generation college students. Starting with just $300 to its name, Reality Changers has now given more scholarship awards to college-bound students than any other single program in San Diego County since 2006 and become California’s leading mentorship organization for scholarships in June 2009.
